I don’t know about you, but for my family, winter has been an absolute bear. Between work, school, and travel plans, it felt like someone in my house was always sick. When I turned 40 in January, I was so sick of being sick that I decided to double down on my health. Even though I was already prioritizing sleep, exercise, and a balanced diet, I kept finding myself run down. Something had to change.
Enter: habit stacking.
Rather than trying to overhaul my routine completely, I started layering small, intentional habits onto things I was already doing. Inspired by friends who seemed to have cracked the code on feeling consistently well, I made a few simple shifts:
- Morning Hydration: Instead of heading straight for coffee, I start my day with 20 ounces of water mixed with lemon juice, cayenne, ginger, and turmeric. I don’t think it’s a miracle elixir, but it wakes me up, gets me hydrated, and sets the tone for the day.
- Remembering Vitamins: I take my vitamins with my lemon water, so I don’t forget them later.
- Movement Breaks: On days when I’m doing a lot of computer work, I set a timer for 30 minutes, and every time it goes off, I stand up and do 10 kettlebell swings. It’s quick, keeps my energy up, and helps counteract long periods of sitting.
- Veggies at Every Meal: Instead of aiming for “perfect” eating, I just make sure I have at least one vegetable at every meal.
- Skincare Before Bed: I now do my full skincare routine before I brush my teeth, making it feel like an intentional part of my wind-down, rather than an afterthought.
Are these tiny changes the reason I haven’t been sick in three weeks? Who knows. But I do know I feel better, and that’s enough reason to stick with them.
Stacking Fitness into Your Life
If movement is one of the habits you’ve been struggling to get back into, habit stacking can help. The key? Pair it with something you already enjoy. Some of our KG Strong members have been doing this naturally:
- The Strong Mom crew (next session starts March 11th) loves grabbing lunch together after class.
- Parents dropping their kids at Beehive love stacking it with yoga.
- Folks who train in the evening can now enjoy a free 15-minute massage with Abby when they become a member.
This March, we have plenty of ways to help you build a routine that makes you feel stronger, more energized, and just better.
- Our monthly community class is a great way to try KG Strong before committing to a membership.
- Momentum, our new 40-minute conditioning class, is a perfect fit for parents with kids in the 4 PM In Movement class upstairs.
- A new Beginner Series kicks off in April for those looking to start fresh.
However you choose to move this spring, we’re here to help you feel your best. What’s one habit you could stack to make your routine easier? Let us know—we’d love to hear from you.
